On Wednesday, July 8 Dr. Farouk El-Baz visited the TEI participants at the Simmons Dining Hall.  After some brief remarks, Dr. El-Baz mingled with the participants, answered questions about his work at NASA, Boston University and his recent award from the American University of Beirut 

Dr. El – Baz is on the Board of Directors at the University of the Middle East Project and his bio can be found below 

UME was honored to host Tom Johnston, Senior Program Officer at the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the Department of State.  Mr. Johnston visited the Teacher Education Institute for three days and enjoyed attending classes and site visits with the TEI participants.   

After only a week, the TEI participants have already experienced some of the best of what Boston has to offer.   A celebratory cookout on Monday evening included a warm welcome from Dr. Helen Drinan, president of Simmons College, as well as inspiring addresses from UME President Hala Taweel and Executive Director Ray Matsumiya.  The participants mingled with staff and faculty well into the evening and even showed off their moves at an on-campus dance party.
